Our Project
Mobile Enhanced Language Learning (MELLT) goes OEP: Future competencies for prospective English teachers and English classrooms
The overarching goal of the project is to promote media and foreign language didactic competences. This goal will be primarily achieved by developing adaptable learning and teaching materials to meet the needs of teachers and students, as such material is crucial for teaching in a digitised society and is becoming increasingly important for the future of education.
The double-track structure of the project involves, first the development of self-learning materials on current methodological theories, models, and methods of teaching (e.g., digital literacies). These materials can support students in their teacher training and provide teachers with additional opportunities for self-directed professional development. Second, the project focuses on the development of materials for digitally-supported English teaching in collaboration with students from the teaching methodology seminars of the Master of Education, based on empirical evaluations of digital tools and technologies. The continuous evaluation of the materials is a critical feature of quality assurance. The cooperation #LernenVernetzt and the implementation during the practical semester further enable practical applications and practice-oriented evaluation of the materials by the students themselves.
Ultimately, publishing the developed materials as permanently available and adaptable open educational resources (OER) not only contributes to educational equity but also enables easy availability for students, practicing teachers, and other interested parties outside the formal education sector. Supporting teachers in obtaining high-quality OER is therefore a particular concern of the project, as finding them – at least on German servers – is still associated with a variety of obstacles. Additionally, publications containing theoretically sound and thoroughly evaluated materials might offer a degree of security to users regarding the quality of educational materials published on the internet.
